This property really will make the perfect family home, the whole house has a really warm and welcoming feel and each of the rooms has its own unique character and charm. It is a very pretty house; it has a superb feeling of both light and space throughout. The outside space only adds to the appeal.

"Design is something I'm extremely passionate about; I do it for a living, and I have been very fortunate to have won many local and national design awards for my work. The quality of the home and adage of "where we live affects how we live" is very true and in "Voysey House" I applied all my skill to create an architecture and level of design detail that is quite exemplary. I designed everything; all of the internal doors, wall panelling, the bespoke parquet flooring and even the handmade kitchen. Indeed every feature is bespoke and designed. I have designed many award winning homes, including many for the rich and famous but clearly, for this I was able to design and plan every part and detail. It is something of a seminal creation.

I was very fortunate to find this fabulous plot of land on Hengistbury Head and build my dream home. This location was the premium place for me, given its locality to beaches, great schools and shops as well as the head itself and Christchurch Harbour and Mudeford Quay. There is a lovely river taxi on The Stour, just a short walk away that goes directly into Christchurch and the whole context was exactly where I wanted myself and my family to create this wonderful and bespoke home and the lifestyle it enables.

"I wanted the house to be exceptionally homely, with period charm and character, but at the same time I also wanted it to be extremely conducive to modern family life, and I would say that I've managed to achieve that perfect balance. In terms of the overall design, I was heavily influenced by the work of Voysey & Lutyens, both leaders in the Arts and Crafts movement. The house is a perfect interpret. I also used a cranked butterfly plan, which gives the illusion of the house looking smaller from the front than it actually is. It means that the building doesn't appear to swamp the plot, but it splays out at the back, creating a very large footprint which enabled me to incorporate a tremendous amount of living space."

"Inside I've continued with the Arts and Crafts theme and not only bespoke designed the whole of the interior, but I've also developed a layout using interconnecting symmetries, so typical of the movement. Each room links beautifully with another, so the layout flows seamlessly and the view between those connecting rooms always ends on an eye-catching feature. It's that kind of attention to detail that I'd say makes this house totally unique; it has been said that it looks like a perfectly preserved example of an Arts and Crafts house, but with all the benefits of a modern home."

"The way the house relates to the garden was also of upmost importance to me, so the attention to detail carries through to the outside space," continues the owner. "The planting was already quite mature, and my wife, who is a very keen gardener, has added to it so the space now has the look of a typical English country garden, which frames the house beautifully."

"The kitchen/family room is the part of the house that usually blows people away. It's a very large and very sociable part of the house, and it has such a warm and welcoming feel. I also love the fact that we can fling open the French doors and create an almost seamless connection with the garden."

"This is a place where we've been able to enjoy the absolute best of everything. We have a superb array of shops and amenities just a few minutes away; on a whim we can go swimming in the sea, kayaking, surfing, fishing… we're within striking distance of the New Forest and vast swathes of open countryside, and there are some excellent schools in the local area so it's a fabulous place to raise a family. It's a place where we've been able to enjoy a really terrific quality of life."

The house is beautiful, one of a kind, but it's the setting that I'll miss the most when we move," says the owner. "Getting up for an early morning walk along the river, then heading down to the beach for a swim, before ending the day with an early evening picnic or a stroll to the pubs and bistros that are nearby…………It's a heavenly place to live."

Through a gate there is the secret garden with play area and a feature pond, alongside which is a brick roundel and a spinning summerhouse. It has an axle in the middle and it's mounted on wheels so it can be positioned either to overlook the water or straight down the garden, across the sweeping lawn. It's a lovely place to sit on a warm summer's evening."
